The weekend brought the birth of our first two calves from our new bull. The cows even waited until after the cold snap, which doesn’t happen often. The calves are both up, running around and healthy. Hopefully, all of the calves will be this simple.

The first calf is from a cow of Papa’s. I believe he said it is solid black. (I haven’t gotten to see it yet.) The second is from one of our neighbor’s heifers. It’s certainly a pretty first calf. It’s black and has the white face of its mama.

We’ll see which ones are next. One or two of my cows should be getting very close to calving. I can’t wait to see how the calves from this bull do! So far, I would say we’ve been blessed with a good replacement bull.
